SCHILD, FRED A., JR.

Frederick Albrecht Schild Jr., 92, of Apex, Hancock, NY, died on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at home. He was born on March 1st, 1923 in Middletown, NY, the son of Frederick A. and Josephine (Reilly) Schild. Fred married Constance Walsh in August of 1945.

Fred was a U.S. Veteran, serving in the Marine Corps from 1942-1945. He was assigned to the Corps’ 1st Raider Battalion under the command of Col. “Red Mike” Edson where he served from Guadalcanal until the end of the war. He was a Life Member of the Edson Raider Association and the 6th Marine Division Association. Fred was also a member of the American Legion Post 289 in Hancock and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and working with the animals on his farm.

Surviving are his wife Connie, a son William III and wife Ronayne, grandchildren Catherine, William IV (Marisa), and Andrew (Nicole) Schild and 4 great-grandchildren, Adeline, William V, Josephine, and Dean Schild. Fred is also survived by 1 sister, Ruth Turner, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Eric, a brother, William II, and a sister, Grace Sharples.

There will be an hour for visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 on Saturday, October 31, followed by a mass, all to be held at St. Paul’s Church, Hancock. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hancock.
