ANDERWALD, FRANK R.

HONDO – Mass for Frank R. Anderwald, 73, of Bandera, who died Thursday [February 18, 1993] in a Hondo hospital, will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with Father Michael MacManus, celebrant.

Burial will follow in the Old Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.

A rosary will be recited tonight at 7 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera, with Father Michael MacManus officiating.

Born Jan. 16, 1920 in Bandera, Mr. Anderwald had been a resident of Bandera for most of his life. He was a rancher and owner of Twin Elm Ranch. He was a member of the Catholic Church, Chamber of Commerce, Visitors and Convention Bureau, San Antonio Livestock Trail Riders Association, Range and Forestry Society, and numerous professional societies. He was an alumni of Texas A&M Class of 1942. He served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps Raiders, and was director of agriculture for the island of Guam. He served as trail boss of the Cowboy Capitol Trail Ride for 24 years. He married Mary Helen Wedemeyer on March 2, 1946 in Houston. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mary Kay Billings of Tarpley and Katherin Hickman of San Antonio; two sons, Randy Anderwald of Conroe and Chris Anderwald of Bandera; a sister, Arlene Fried of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three brothers, Gabe R. Anderwald and Alfred M. Anderwald, both of Bandera, and Alton J. Anderwald of Burnet; and five grandchildren, Will, Kelly and Amy Anderwald, Ty Billings and Christina Hickman.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
