GORBY, DANNY L.

A blind veteran of a Marine Corps attack force in World War II, Dan Gorby, died at the Veterans Administration hospital on Monday [April 14, 1975, the 30th anniversary of the day he was permanently disabled in the battle of Okinawa. He was 51.

A Tucson resident since 1942, the same year he enlisted in the Marines, Gorby died of complications from the gunshot wounds that blinded him April 14, 1945, as he led his men in Okinawa. He had also fought at New Georgia, Guam and Emirau with the Corps’ Edson’s Raiders.

Gorby was active in civic and church duties in Tucson until 1962 when his disabilities confined him to his home.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah; a daughter, RaMar, Cheyenne, Wyo.; two brothers, Richard, of Tucson and Donald, of California, and a sister, Carol Rosenbaum, of California.

Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery.
