KENNEY, JAMES R.

Jim Kenney, age 87, a resident of the Colorado Springs area since 1950, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2008 at a local care center.

He was a retired accountant for an automobile dealership. James Robert Kenney was born on August 24, 1921 to the late Robert and Mimi (Cross) Kenney.

After high school he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart after being wounded. He also served during the Korean War.

Mr. Kenney had a passion for golf and Air Force Falcons football. He was a member of BPOE Lodge 1063 in Granite City, Illinois and served as their exalted ruler for 2 years. He then became a member of BPOE Lodge 309. He was also a member of the Pikes Peak Rodeo Association, VFW Post 4051, American Legion Post 5, the Disabled American Veterans and First Presbyterian Church.

Jim is survived by his loving wife: Eleanor; his children: Deborah Voumard, Melanie (husband, Steve) Meyer, Robert Montgomery (wife, Diane) Kenney; Greg (wife Naomi) Kenney, Valerie Kenney, Lisa (husband, Greg) Lindsay; and Sarah Kenney.

He is also survived by his sister: Elva Mae (husband, Johnny) Hartman of Granite City, Illinois; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his former wife: Mary Kenney of Edwardsville, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister: Dant’e and a son: James Joseph Kenney.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Shine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel with an Elks Memorial Service to follow.

A reception will take place at Elks Lodge at 3400 N. Nevada Avenue. Graveside Services with honors will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, staging area “B.”
