CRISS, FILMORE F.

Filmore (Fil) F. Criss, a long-time resident of Los Alamos, New Mexico, died at his home on March 11, 1999. He was 80.

Following service in the Civilian Conservation Corps, he enlisted, with his father’s approval, in the United States Marine Corps in February 1937 and served until February 1941. His was recalled to duty in December 1941and served in the South Pacific until discharged in November 1945. In the early days of the war, he was a member of the 4th Marine Raider Battalion.

Fil graduated from West Virginia University in August 1948 with a degree in Physics. He began working for Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1949 as a member of the Weapons Experimental Physics Section. He worked for the Lab for 28 years and retired in 1973 as a member of the High Temperature Chemistry Section.

He was a member of the Community Evangelical Free Church.

Fil is survived by his wife Louise, his children John Criss of Las Cruces, NM, James Criss of Albuquerque, NM, Sharon Dunn of Phoenix, AZ, John Bucholz and his wife, Joan, of Albuquerque, Thomas Bucholz and his wife, Misty, of Jemez Springs, NM, and his grandchildren, Lisa Bucholz, Sterling Bucholz, and Brittany Bucholz of Jemez Springs.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. March 15th, 1999, at Trinity Bible Church and Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3 p.m.
