NELSON, CARMEN J.

EDGERTON –Pfc. Carmen Nelson, 19, formerly a resident of Edgerton and a member of a Marine Corps Raider battalion, has been killed in action [December 30, 1943] in the Southwest Pacific, friends in Edgerton learned from his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Nelson, Sr., who are now living in Casmalia, Calif.

Born in Edgerton, Pfc. Nelson attended Edgerton schools and moved in 1941 to Casmalia with his parents. There he was graduated from high school, and returned the following year to Edgerton, where he was employed by the Highway Trailer Co.

In February, 1943, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, took Raider training, and volunteered for replacement service in the Raider battalion. A letter with fuller details is to follow the telegram which announced his death.

Carmen Nelson, Sr. was a member of Company M, of Edgerton in the First World War, and served overseas.

Pfc. Nelson is survived by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Donald Haugen, Madison; Mrs. Gilman Nelson, Albion, and June Nelson, Casmalia, and a brother, Frederick Nelson, Casmalia.
