SUTTON, WILLIAM F.
William F. Sutton, Sr., 79, of 20 High View Terrace, Bethel, husband of Gertrude (Drumm) Sutton, died at Bethel Health Care on Sunday [November 1, 1998].
He was born in Bridgeport, Nov. 13, 1918, son of the late Fletcher and Josephine (Pickett) Sutton. He was a graduate of Danbury High School.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWI in the 1st Raider Battalion, known as Edson’s Raiders, “D” Company.
He was the original owner and operator of the Dough Boy Restaurant in Bethel and then served as a rural letter carrier with the Bethel Post Office, from 1958-1986, when he retired.
He was a member of St. Mary Church, Bethel, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Marine Corps League, National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees and formerly a member of the Circle “B” Square Dancers.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, William F. Sutton, Jr., of Rockville, Maryland and John R. Sutton of Flower Mound, Texas, and his daughters, Jayne E. Herrmann of Danbury, Elizabeth A. Fitzgerald of Tampa, Florida and Tracee Sutton-Wells of Danbury, and 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel, on Wednesday morning at 10:00 am.
Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Tuesday from 4-6 pm.
