SLAVIN, JOSEPH T.

Joseph Thomas Slavin, 88, husband of the late Clare Gates Slavin and a resident of Onancock, passed away at his residence on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011.

Born Feb. 26, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dr. James Sylvester Slavin and Amelia Heinrichs Slavin.

Mr. Slavin was a retired project manager in the petroleum industry; a former aerospace engineer; served his country in the United States Marines during World War II in the South Pacific; and was a Catholic.

Survivors include two sisters, Nancy Grimes of Texas, and Grace Murphy of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe was an avid reader of books, some would say rabid reader, with a never-ending thirst for knowledge.

According to Joe’s wishes, funeral services will be private.
