SIEKKINEN, PAUL E.

Pfc. Paul (Whitey) Siekkinen, of Vernon, O., who was killed June [10], 1945, at Oroku Peninsula in the South Pacific while on duty with the U.S. Marines, will be returned here for burial.

Born Aug. 9, 1924, in Ashtabula, Pfc. Siekkinen was a son of Andrew and Mary Siekkinen. He enlisted March 3, 1943, while he was a senior at Vernon High School. Pfc. Siekkinen received his training at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, Calif., and was sent overseas in November, 1943, with the Fourth Marine [Regiment], Sixth Marine Division.

Pfc. Siekkinen was a holder of the Purple Heart Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. At the time of his death he was 21 years of age.

He was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church, Ashtabula.

Surviving are his mother, of Kinsman; four brothers, Roy, George and Henry, of Warren, O., and Donald, of Nutwood, O.; and four sisters, Mrs. Edwin Warin, of Kinsman, Mrs. Jesse Santsant, of Burghill, and Lillian and Lena Siekkinen, at home.

Pfc. Siekkinen will arrive at the McCurdy Funeral Home, Kinsman, Monday noon. Graveside funeral services will be held by the Kinsman American Legion at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Kinsman Cemetery. Rev. Henry R. Kargas of the Finnish Lutheran Church will be in charge.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 to 9 o’clock Monday evening.
