ROMBOLD, JAMES K.

HOOKERTON – James “Pops” K. Rombold Sr., 78, of 5119 N.C. 58 N., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital after an illness of several years. He was the adopted son of the late Samuel F. Rombold and Isa Stevens Rombold. He grew up in Clinton, Mo. and later moved to California. His biological parents were the late Loyd and Mabel Glidwell McDonald. He served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Brubaker. He was a retired meat cutter at Western Sizzlin in Kinston with 12 years of employment. After his retirement, he was in partnership with his son, Samuel Rombold at Precision Car Detailing in Kinston for many years. He enjoyed his life with his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Garner Funeral Home with Evangelist Sue Holder officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Pauline; daughter, Paula R. Taylor and husband, Lynwood, of Hookerton; two sons, James K. Rombold Jr. and wife, Gwen, and Samuel F. Rombold and wife, Christy, all of Hookerton; nine grandchildren, Trey Rombold of Victoria, Va., Holly Taylor, Brittany Rombold and Princess and Walker Rombold, all of Hookerton, Courtnie R. Blizzard of Snow Hill, Amber and Jillian Rombold of Greenville, and Samantha Rombold of Winterville; three great-grandchildren, Trevor Rombold, Catlin Taylor and Nathan Blizzard; and two cousins, Tommy Stevens of Columbia, Mo. and Ruth Sheeley of Springfield, Mo. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Garner Funeral Home and other times at his home. Arrangements by Garner Funeral Home.
