ROBERTS, CLAYTON L.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15—(AP)—Korean casualty list No. 152 today reports another Oklahoma soldier has been killed in action [October 27, 1950].

He was Sgt. Clayton L. Roberts, husband of Mrs. Clayton L. Roberts, Rattan.

The Navy Cross, awarded posthumously to Sgt. Clayton L. Roberts for his daring action against the enemy the night of October 27, 1950, in which he lost his life as a Marine, was presented Friday morning to his widow, Opal, in a brief ceremony conducted in the Baptist Church in Rattan community, 14 miles east of here. Major Johnny Jennings, U.S. Marine Corps, CO, Marine Barracks, NAD, McAlester, presented the award to Mrs. Roberts in Rattan.

Besides Mrs. Roberts, Miss Dixie Roberts of Grand Prairie, Tex., a sister of the late sergeant, was present. The sergeant’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Roberts, live in Oklahoma City. CWO W. T. Wilson, also of McAlester accompanied Major Jennings to Rattan.

The widow received the Silver Star last July 13, also awarded posthumously in a ceremony at the Naval air station in Dallas, for heroism against the Jap forces on Guam in July, 1944. Sgt. Roberts enlisted in the Marines in 1941 and remained in service after [World] War II. He served several months at the ammunition depot near McAlester before going to Korea. He had been in the Korean fighting three months and 10 days when his time ran out.
