WELLBAUM, DONALD L.

The body of Pfc. Donald L. Wellbaum, a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Wellbaum, of 513 South Twenty-First Street, will arrive in Decatur this evening from Guam. Pfc. Wellbaum was killed by a Japanese machine gun burst on Guam July 28, 1944.

Funeral services, including full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Monson Funeral Home in Decatur. Rev. W. L. Day will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Pfc. Wellbaum was born in Mattoon Jan. 20, 1924. He attended Bennett School here and graduated from Decatur High School, where he was a football and track star. He entered the Marine Corps Aug. 25, 1942, and was sent overseas in January of 1943. He was a member of the 4th Marine Raiders and the 1st Provisional [Brigade].

Surviving besides his parents are a brother, John, of Chicago, and a grandmother, Mrs. Emma C. Shelley of Mattoon.
