WINDOW ROCK — Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly has issued a proclamation that all Navajo Nation flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Navajo Nation Code Talker Robert Walley Sr., who died Sept. 10 [2014] at the age of 93.

Walley was a Navajo Code Talker who served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945. He served in the 6th Marine Division and was a Marine Raider who fought in the Battle of Bougainville, Guam, Okinawa and the occupation of Emirau Island. For his heroism, Walley was awarded the Purple Heart and Congressional Silver Medal.

Shelly has asked that the flags be flown at half-staff from Sept. 12-15.
