YOAKUM, MARK C.

SWEETWATER, June 8—Three Sweetwater men recently have been killed in action, two of them on Okinawa.

Pfc. Mark Yoakum, 21, of the Marines was killed on May [22, 1945], his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Yoakum of Sweetwater, have learned.

Yoakum, former Mustang letter man, was born and reared in Sweetwater. He was drafted into the Marines shortly before he finished high school in 1942.

The young Marine, assigned to the Sixth Division of the Fourth Marines, had taken part in most of the major engagements in the Pacific and had been on Okinawa since the invasion.

He is survived, in addition to his parents, by a brother, Joe Yoakum, who is an American Airlines pilot out of Fort Worth, and three sisters, Tommye Lou Yoakum, Mary Ann Yoakum and Lelia Grace Yoakum, all of Sweetwater.
