PUCKLY, CONSTANTINE E.

Constantine E. Puckly, 82, a long time resident of Erie, died Sunday morning, July 10, 2005, at the VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born in Lyndora, Pa., September 1, 1922, son of the late Konstatin and Ludvika Valochovich Puckly. He was employed as a machinist at the American Hollow Boring Co. for 18 years before retiring in 1978. He had previously worked at the Continental Rubber Works for 20 years. He was a “Raider” in the United States Marine Corps during World War II where he earned two Purple Hearts holding the rank Staff Sgt. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, Polish Sharpshooters, East Erie Turners and he enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Joseph Puckly. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Genevieve “Jean” Kowalewski Puckly; two sons, Constantine E. Puckly, III and Patrick Puckly and his wife Connie of Grove City, Pa.; two daughters, Jean Marie Pietsch and Rebecca Schultz and her husband Roger of Collierville, Tenn. ; five sisters, Ann Mulchahy and her husband Dan, of Long Island, N.Y. ,Theresa Baker and her husband Harold of Alexandria, Va., Agnes Deeds of Alexandria, Va., Agatha Volk and her husband Richard of Corry, Pa. and Mary Coan also of Corry. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the new Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, an Independent Care Group Affiliate, 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of Pine Ave. and East Gore Road). A prayer service will be held there Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m. followed at 10:00 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke Catholic Church. Burial with military honors in will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center, 135 East 38th St., Erie, PA 16504.
