MILLIGAN, BRUCE W.
Dr. Bruce Wade Milligan, 58, former Jacksonville resident and brother of Miss Josephine Milligan, 309 Woodland Place, died Monday evening [June 5, 1967] at the Veterans Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Milligan had been engaged in military induction examinations for the U.S. Army at Denver. He had lived in Denver the past three years. The family home is at 428 Downing Street.
Dr. Milligan was born at Boulder, Montana June 23, 1908, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Laurance E. Milligan. The family moved to Jacksonville in 1920 and the deceased grew up in this city. He was a graduate of the local high school; received his degree from Illinois College in 1931 and from Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago in 1937, where he affiliated with Phi Chi fraternity.
He was married to Nancy Aleene Eastin who survives with three children, Mrs. Dan (KayDe) Fullerton and Laurence Milligan, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mrs. David (Sandy) Brunton, Spanaway, Washington. There are two grandchildren, Sherry Claire Brunton and Nils Kamm Fullerton.
Besides his sister of this city, a brother, William Milligan of White Plains, New York, also survives.
The deceased enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Oct. 9, 1941 as a Lieutenant. He was on leave from military service from March 1946 until being recalled to active duty in February of 1957. He received his honorable discharge Oct. 21, 1960 as a Captain with the Navy and a Major with the U.S. Marine Corps.
His colorful military record includes serving at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Bremerton, Washington; serving with the Second Marine Brigade and Third Marine Raider Battalion in the South Pacific. He also served at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Schoemaker, California and aboard the USS Carrier Bexar, APA 237.
Among the many honors he received the American Defense Medal; American Area Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 3 stars; World War Two Victory Medal and the Letter of Commendation.
Dr. Milligan was a member of the Congregational Church in Jacksonville. He also held membership in the VFW Post 9374 at Kremmling, Colorado.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held Thursday at Fort Logan, Colorado in Kremmling, with the Kremmling VFW Post in charge.
