MARCHESE, PETER J.
A Mass of Christian Burial and recitation of the Holy Rosary will be on Tuesday for Peter J. Marchese who passed away peacefully on November 29, 2006 in Corralitos, California at the age of 84. Born in Akron, Ohio to Sicilian immigrants, Joseph Marchese and Giovanna Ingrassia Marchese, his parents died when he was 15 years old. Moving to San Jose to live with his uncle and aunt, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during WW II. He returned to San Jose following his military service and was married there to Edna Genovesi. In 1948, he moved to Santa Cruz to help with the family’s business, The Riverside Hotel and Restaurant. For more than 38 years, Peter worked in the hotel bar and restaurant industry in the county until his retirement. Peter was a charter member of the Eastside Lions Club of Santa Cruz. His passion was spending time with his family and friends; however, he was also an avid hunter and a talented cook. After his retirement, he would be found taking walks along West Cliff Drive and down to the Santa Cruz Wharf where he would reminisce with the Italian old timers at Gilda’s. His family will forever hold fond memories of his love for west side Santa Cruz, its neighbors, and the many lifelong friends he made there.
Mr. Marchese is survived by his daughters, Teri Marchese of Aptos and Jackie Marchese of Santa Cruz. He also leaves his sister, Eleanor Biel of Livermore, and his three grandsons, James, Shawn, and Parker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Marchese in 1985.
The mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 5, at Resurrection Catholic Church 4300 Soquel Drive, in Aptos beginning at 12 noon. A recitation of the rosary will begin at the church at 11:45 a.m. prior to the mass.
He will be laid to rest beside his wife in a private ceremony at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Cindy’s Celebrations PO BOX 1637 Capitola, CA. 95010
