MALLORY, HENRY C.

Gresham resident Henry C. Mallory died Friday, Oct. 1 [2010], at Providence Portland Medical Center. He was 85.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Sanctuary Church, 3101 S.E. Orient Drive.

Henry was born April 16, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Harrison and Mary (Perkins) Mallory. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17 and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in May 1946 and then served as a recruiting officer, which allowed him to visit Oregon. He decided to move to Oregon in 1955.

Henry’s first job in Portland was as the senior supervisor of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in downtown Portland, where he met June Williams. They were married in 1956.

Henry retired as yard foreman for Atlas Iron Works at age 62. After his retirement, he and June bought a small business in Raleigh Hills that was called The Letterbox. After the sale of that business, Henry worked as a courtesy clerk at Safeway for seven years until he was 80.

Henry attended Cornerstone Community Church for the last six years. His greatest joys were spending time with his family and fishing. He was known for his fun-loving spirit, kind heart and his warm and infectious personality.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cheryl Allen of Boston, Mass., Kathleen Hanna of Italy and Lisa Kellum of France; son, Scott Mallory of Gresham; 10 grandchildren; three honorary grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
