LIPSCOMB, NATHAN A.

Nathan “Nate” Lipscomb [March 15, 2012] was born on March 22, 1917. After high school he joined the U.S. Marines in 1936. He served in the South Pacific campaigns of World War II, Guadalcanal, 2nd Raider Bn., Carlson’s Raiders, and was awarded the Silver Star for Iwo Jima, 5th Marine Division. He retired as a Major in 1957.

In 1960, Nate obtained his teaching credential from San Diego State. He taught junior high students for seventeen years. He served as President of the Teacher’s Association twice and was chairman of the Negotiating Council.

Lion Nate served his country for more than forty years as a member of several Lion’s Clubs in the San Diego area and Santa Maria. He served as Lion’s District Governor for 4L6 from 1986-1987. He was currently a member of the Santa Maria Sunrisers Club.

Nate leaves behind his wife of sixty-six years, Ruth Lipscomb. Their life together was made complete by always striving to make the world a better place.

A celebration of Nate’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at noon at the Orcutt Lion’s Den in Orcutt, CA. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Santa Maria Sunrisers Lion’s Club, P.O. Box 514, Santa Maria, CA 93456 or the charity of your choice.
