KOBAL, JOHN

John Kobal, 63, of Lehighton, R.4, died Thursday [January 5, 1984] in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center.

He retired in 1981 after 34 years as a conductor for the now Conrail Railroad.

Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Hrenko) Kobal.

He was a member of the Lutheran wing of Dinkey Memorial Church, Ashfield.

Kobal served with the Marines in the South Pacific and was the third last remaining member of the First Marine Raider Division in the Guadalcanal Zone[?].

He was an original organizer of the Nis Hollow Hunting Club.

Surviving are three sons, John of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Stephen and Charles, both of Lehighton R. 4; two brothers, Michael of Lehighton R. 4; and Paul of Andreas, and four sisters, Mrs. Anna Motsko of Allentown, Julie, wife of Michael Matyola, and Mrs. Mary Snyder, both of Lehighton R. 4; and Sue, wife of Woodrow Florey of Bath.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, 4th and Iron streets, Lehighton. A calling hour will precede the services.
