KEYS, DOC G.

Doc Goodall Keys, decorated war hero and a well-known local woodworker, died Monday night [February 2, 2004] at Community North Hospital. The 78-year-old Indianapolis resident started Doc G. Keys & Son Construction in 1952. During World War II, Keys served as a United States Marine Corps Raider, a highly specialized unit of the United States Marine Corps. He was the recipient of many medals for bravery and valor. He was a lightweight Golden Glove Boxing Champion. Keys was born in Thompkinsville, KY to the late Ollie B. Brooks and Harry Keys. He was one of sixteen children, including deceased brothers, Gene & Leo; sisters, Ruth Rupert, Lucy Cast Robinson and Beulah Moneymaker. Loving brother to Joe, Pat, Barbara Mosier, Elaine and Donna Stansifer; beloved father to George R. Keys, Debbie Keys Manheim (Ken) of Chagrin Falls, OH, Doc G. Keys Jr. (Debbie), Camille Keys Francis (Jon), Pamela Keys of San Diego, CA, and Stacey Keys Stoffer of Nashville, IN; grandfather to Brad Manheim of Cleveland, OH, Amy Veach of Indpls., Heather Gustin of Chicago, IL, Brandi Gustin of Indpls., Ali Cho of Tampa, FL, Tracey Manheim of NYC, NY, Cortney Horstman of Indpls., Morgan Keys of Indpls., Angie Keys of Indpls., Doc Keys of Indpls., Kylie and Robbie Stoffer of Nashville, IN; great-grandfather to Austie Meyer, Dominique Carrington, Emily, Grayson and Harrison Cho, Emma Crafton and Zoe Gallion of Indpls.; and uncle to his favorite nephew, Marine James Foxworthy, whom he loved like a son. Memorial visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, February 5 at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E.
