JULSON, JAMES O.
OSSEO – James Orlin Julson, 90, of Augusta Area Nursing Home passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the home.
James was born September 5, 1920 on the family farm in King’s Valley, outside of Osseo, to Casper and Edna (Julson) Julson. He attended school and was confirmed at King’s Valley Lutheran Church. He lived his entire life in the Osseo area until entering the Augusta Area Home in March of 2008.
James married Donna M. Crow on February 1, 1947 at United Church of Christ in Osseo. They spent 64 wonderful years together. He was a proud father, grandfather who, in his later years, looked forward to visits from his family at the home.
James proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps form August 4, 1942 until being honorably discharged on December 21, 1945. He was wounded on Okinawa on April 15, 1945 and received the Purple Heart. After military service he worked at Eau Claire Paper Mill while attending vocational school. Following school he was employed by Bill Myers and Abner Lee at the Ford garage. He later owned and operated Jim’s Service Garage for many years. He was employed by the Osseo-Fairchild School District as head bus mechanic at the time he retired.
After the Lincoln Hill High School fire in 1953 he joined the Osseo Rural Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for over 20 years. He also drove ambulance for the Osseo Ambulance Service for many years. He was a member of Carl Nelson American Legion Post 324 where he proudly served as Commander for several years. He was a member of Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and served as president. Jim was involved in Osseo Little League, Pony League, Osseo Cub Scouts, Osseo Boy Scouts and had been a Sunday school teacher. One of his cherished moments was on September 12, 2009; he had his name engraved on a Memory Stone at The High Ground in Neillsville, where his family gathered to honor him for his service to his country.
James is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Gloria (Michael) Jensen of Osseo, James C. (Sara) Julson of Eau Claire, Charles (Jean) Julson of Osseo, Susan (Allan) Lundberg of Osseo and Tammy (Jim) Cuddy of Osseo; 17 grandchildren, Michelle Jensen of Eau Claire, Brett (Melissa) Jensen of Osseo, Daniel (Stacy) Julson of Farmington, MN, Tracy (Fred) Ziesmer of Eau Claire, Lisa (Trent) Roff of Altoona, William (Angela) Julson of Eau Claire, Nathan (Rachel) Julson of Eau Claire, Adam (Kari) Julson of Augusta, Karla Lundberg (fiancé Darcy Sonsalla) of Arcadia, Erica Lundberg of Osseo, Alyson Lundberg (friend Matthew Mackey) of Osseo, Sarah Lundberg ( friend Ryan Compeau) of Osseo, Jessica (Boone) Sesvold of Madison, Benjamin (Andrea) Julson of Minneapolis, Kelli Julson of Eau Claire, Joseph (Alison) Cuddy of Osseo and Christopher Cuddy of Osseo; 21 (with one on the way) great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by one beloved son, David John; his parents; sisters, Hazel Julson, Elva Larson, Alice Blumer and Margaret Thorson; brothers, Clifford and Kenneth Julson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lewis Thompson officiating. Burial will be in King’s Valley Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
