JASPERS, WILLIAM M.
Military committal rites will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Hills of Rest Memorial Park for PFC William Maurice Jaspers, USMCR, who died of his wounds on Okinawa, 15 May 1945. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob B. Jaspers, 1801 South Menlo Ave.
Dr. John V. Madison will officiate at the committal with the Veterans of Foreign Wars providing military honors escort. The family requests no flowers.
Marine PFC Jaspers, a veteran of three Pacific campaigns, was wounded in combat on 14 May and died the next day. He had also taken part in the attack upon Emirau Island in the St Matthias group near the Solomon Islands and in the attack and recapture of Guam in the Mariana Islands.
He was a member of the 6th Marine Division. Wounded three times in action, he was the holder of the Purple Heart medal with two stars, the Presidential Citation, the American Defense, and the Asiatic Pacific ribbon with battle stars.
He was born in Bruce, S.D. on 22 Sept. 1924 and graduated from High School there. He was employed by Nash-Finch Co, here for a short time before he entered the service in 1942. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents, one brother, Lyle Jaspers, Sioux Falls and one sister, Mrs. Clarabell Lundeen, Huntington Park, Calif.
