HORTON, MILTON T.

Milton T. Horton of Grand Junction passed away on October 25, 2005 due to congestive heart failure. He was 84. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Callahan Edfast Mortuary Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date. Milton was born February 14, 1921 at Duluth, MN to Moses M. and Jane (Bratland) Horton. Milton spent his childhood in Duluth and graduated from high school there. After graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He took part in the first raid on Japanese territory at the Makin Atoll on August 17, 1942. Milton also took part in the Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima campaigns. Milton married Clara A. Hafar on February 5, 1949 at Duluth, MN; she survives. Milton worked as a Field Engineer for Uniroyal Tire. Throughout his life, Milton lived in many places that included, Duluth, Minneapolis, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Rosalyn, WA; Honolulu, HI and Las Cruces, NM. He had been a resident of Grand Junction for the past 8 years. Milton was a member of the VFW, Marine Raider, and Patch DAV. He enjoyed many activities: camping, painting, hunting, fishing, reading and woodwork. Milton was a volunteer for the Red Cross and was awarded for 5,000 hours of service to the University of Utah Hospital. In addition to Clara, his wife of 56 years, a son, Bruce W. Horton of Tokyo, Japan; daughter, Valerie J. Horton of Lakewood, CO.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive Milton. His parents and one son, Gary D. Horton, preceded Milton in death. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross, 506 Gunnison Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
