HOBBS, THOMAS F.

Rev. Thomas Floyd Hobbs, 84, of Commerce, died Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Athens Regional Hospital.

Born in Toombs County, he was the son of the late J.F. and Melia Harrell Hobbs. He was a veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and was a longtime pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Athens, as well as several other churches. Rev. Hobbs was preceded in death by a son, Bill Hobbs; his first wife, Bessie Mae Hobbs; and eight siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Craven Hobbs, Commerce; daughter, Sherry Evans, Winterville; step-sons and spouses, Ken and Sally Burkett, Evans, Joe and Cathy Burkett, Athens; sister, Lessie Evans, Stapleton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 12, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Johnson and Frank Ledford officiating. Committal and interment was conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lester Roloff Homes in Corpus Christi, Texas.
