HEDGLIN, RAYMOND A.

LITTLE DEER ISLE – Raymond Hedglin, 79, died at his home on Little Deer Isle, Dec. 10, 2002, following a long illness. He was born Jan. 16, 1923, at Orland, Ind., the son of Henry A. and Emma L. (Stayner) Hedglin.

Prior to World War II, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II, he served as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, where he saw action throughout the Pacific Theater. During his service he was twice wounded by Japanese bayonets and received the Purple Heart with one Gold Star. Following the war, he worked as a pipe fitter in Massachusetts and later at Lucent Technology. Ray loved fishing on the ocean, lake or on a brook, it made no difference to him; if he was fishing, he was in heaven. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jean (Hardy) Hedglin of Little Deer Isle; one daughter, Mary Lou and her husband, Robert Elia of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sons, Ralph and his wife, Karie of Manchester, N.H. and Richard and his wife, Paula of Raymond, N.H.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Frank of Florida and Max of Missouri; one sister, Lorraine Stutzman of Indiana; three stepdaughters, Bertha, Virginia and Linda; many nieces, nephews, stepgranchildren and great-grandstepchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Constance in 1986; two brothers and four sisters.
