HAY, EDWARD L.

MARLIN — Edward L. Hay, 79, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at a Marlin hospital.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Cemetery with the Rev. Andy Bratcher, officiating. Family visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home.

Edward Lee was born July 28, 1924, in Eddy to Lester O. Hay Sr. and LaNella Thompson Hay. He served as a Marine Raider in World War II and was honored with the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a law degree and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. A longtime resident of Fort Worth, he was a rancher, lawyer, independent land and oil man. Retiring to his ranch in Marlin, he was a loyal member for 50 years of the Marlin Masonic Lodge #152, and also a charter member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Fort Worth. Most of all, he was a devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elise Waggoner Hay, in 1991.

Survivors: He will be missed by his son, Edward Lee Hay Jr. and wife, Jena, of Marlin; daughters, Lynn Hay Saunders and husband, Thomas B. Saunders IV, of Weatherford and Leslie Hay Jackson and husband, David, of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Sterling Elise Hay, Zane Edward Hay, Madalynn Ryan Saunders, Frances Elise Jackson, Zena Hay Jackson and Charles Wyatt Jackson; brothers, Lester O. Hay and Hugh Hay of Marlin; and many cousins and dear friends.
