HAMMOND, WILLIAM J., JR.
BOSTON – William J. Hammond, a former Boston firefighter who leaves a son in Marstons Mills, died Tuesday [September 23, 1997]. He was 76.
He was born and raised in Readville and lived for many years in the Mission Hill section of Boston.
He was a Boston firefighter and a veteran of World War II. He served in the Marines and received the Purple Heart.
He was the husband of the late Anne F. Hammond.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin J. Hammond of Marstons Mills and Michael G. Hammond of South Boston one daughter, Sister Patricia Mary Hammond, S.S.N.D. of Malden and three grandchildren.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the William J. Gormly Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury. The funeral is 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Mission Church on Mission Hill in Boston.
Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
