GREGORY, GEORGE
A funeral service for George “Greg” Gregory, 81, who died Jan. 1, 2003, at his Gardnerville home, will be held today at 10 a.m. at FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
Mr. Gregory was born April 26, 1921, in Albany, N.Y., to Stephanos and Efimia Gregory. He married Marjorie Smith in 1948. He moved from Malibu, Calif. and lived in the Topaz Lake area since 1962.
Mr. Gregory and wife Marjorie built and operated two casinos at Topaz Lake and retired in 1973. He served in the Marine Corps from 1939 to 1947 and served in the Pacific during World War II. He was a lifelong member of the 1st Marine Division, V.F.W. and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy and sisters Mary, Helen, Jenny and Kate.
Surviving are wife Marjorie Gregory of Topaz Lake; sons Gary Gregory of Moses Lake, Wash., Gordon Gregory of Bend, Ore.; daughter Geene Gregory-James of Chico, Calif.; sister Sophia Sherman of Florida; grandchildren Jennifer Gregory, Courtney Gregory, Efimia Stockel, Jasmine James, Alexander James and Georgia Gregory; step-grandchildren Benjamin Stewart and Daniel Stewart; and great-grandson Logan Stockel.
Burial will be in the Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville.
Contributions in Mr. Gregory’s name may be made to the Topaz Lake Fire Department, 1990 Comstock Drive, Topaz Lake or the Topaz Ranch Estates Volunteer Fire Department in Wellington.
