ERVIN, ARTHUR B.
DETROIT—Sgt. Arthur B. Ervin, son of Mrs. W. B. Meek, was killed in action [July 5, 1944], according to a message received by her Wednesday, the date and place not being revealed for military reasons. His wife, the former Miss Oneda Goode, whom he married in July, 1943, lives in Los Angeles, Calif., and he has two brothers, Chief Radioman Harry Ervin, who has been in the Navy 15 years, now in the Aleutians, and Harley Ervin, shipfitter second class at the San Diego, Calif., naval base, besides a half-brother and a half-sister here.
Volunteering in 1940, he was in the Marine Corps, serving at Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal and the Marshall Islands, and had received the Purple Heart and the Navy Cross. He had been wounded three times, and volunteered to return to action when experienced men were sought.
