DAVIES, LLOYD A.
BLOOMINGDALE — Lloyd A. Davies, 84, of Bloomingdale died at 12:51 p.m. Saturday Sept. 29, 2007, in his residence. He was a retired pipeliner. He was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Bloomingdale, to the late Everett Davies and Etta Belle Chamness Davies. His wife of 58 years, Catherine L. “Kate” Myers Davies whom he married Oct. 25, 1947, in Covington died Feb. 28, 2006.
Survivors include two sons, James A. Davies and wife Deborah of Bloomingdale and Jeffrey L. Davies and wife Penny of Bloomingdale; five daughters, Dianne Y. Paddock and husband Bill of Carmel, Dixie C. Hunt of Rockville, Debra C. McKinney and husband Mike of Bloomingdale, Deena Y. Kiefer and husband Bob of Crawfordsville and Darla T. Burgess and husband Ted of Bloomingdale; three sisters, Helen Erdel of Frankfort, Gladys Paul of Indianapolis and Reba Davies of Rockville; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, five brothers and three sisters.
He was a graduate of Bloomingdale High School. He served as Sergeant for the United States Marines in the Asiatic-Pacific area serving in Bougainville, Emirau, St. Matthias Group, Guam, Marianas Islands, Okinawa, and the Ryukyu Islands. He was wounded in action on May 20, 1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Metal and a commendation for action at Guam.
He was a member of American Legion Kingman Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Taylor Post 1752 in Rockville, Rockville Elk’s Lodge No. 2471 and Operating Engineers Local 841 in Terre Haute.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Gooch Funeral Home at 112 W. Howard St. in Rockville, with the Rev. Don Perry officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and before services on Tuesday. Burial will follow services in Bloomingdale Friends Cemetery with graveside military honors by Parke County Veterans.
