CAIN, HENRY B., JR.

U.S. Marine Captain Henry Booth Cain, Jr., 33, formerly of Nashville, died Saturday morning [March 21, 1942] while training his men at Quantico, Va. Word of his death was received by his mother, Mrs. H. B. Cain, at her home in Nashville.

Captain Cain had been in excellent health until recently when he suffered an attack of influenza. He had recovered from this sufficiently to resume command of his company, which was part of a raiding battalion of the Marine Corps, in training at Quantico. It was while in command of his men that he collapsed, his death being attributed to a heart attack.

Native of Nashville and member of a prominent family, he had been a member of the Marine Corps for nine years and during that time had seen extensive foreign service.

His father was the late Henry B. Cain, for 44 years connected with the Methodist Publishing Co. at Nashville. He attended Peabody Demonstration School at Nashville and Webb School, Bell Buckle before entering the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He entered the Marine Corps from West Point in 1933 and received his training at Parris Island, S.C.

In addition to his wife and mother, Capt. Cain is survived by an infant son, Henry Booth, III, born six weeks ago at Quantico; his sister, Mrs. Saville Trice Clark whose husband is a major in the Marine Corps, having having been stationed also at Quantico until recently, and a brother, Professor Stith Malone Cain, of Moorehead, Ky.

A large family connection and many friends in Athens regret the passing of Capt. Cain, whose father and maternal grandparents were natives of Athens.
