BUSHWAR, W. L., JR.

W. L. Bushwar, Jr., age 92, passed away on May 13, 2014. He was born on March 3, 1922 to William Leslie Bushwar Sr. and Bessie Cooper Bushwar, in Graham, Texas. He was raised in McCamey, Texas. He joined the Marine Corps shortly after graduating from McCamey High School in 1942. He went to Signal and Radio School for the Marine Corps. He made Private First Class (PFC) and was a marksman. He served in WW II from August 3, 1942 to October 2, 1945 in the South Pacific on Guadalcanal, Guam, New Caledonia, Russell Islands, New Georgia and Pearl Harbor as a member of the 16th Replacement Battalion, 1st Raiders, lst MAC Signal Company and the 9th Defense Battalion. During his service, W. L. was stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS) and he was a Marine Corps Guard for Ward Island in Corpus Christi, Texas. While on his days off he would go to the USO dancing. It was here that he met his wife of 68 years, Eileen Mulhollen from Ingleside, Texas. They were married in Oceanside, California on August 1, 1945. W. L. and Eileen returned to Corpus Christi, Texas after his discharge from the service. He was employed by Pittsburg Plate Glass Company in Corpus Christi, Texas and retired after 38 1/2 years, on May 31, 1984. W.L. (Bush) was an avid bowler, officiated HS football games and softball leagues for years. He was involved with Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts with his children. He loved church socials and activities. He enjoyed craft shows where he made and sold mirrors of all kinds with his wife, Eileen. He will always be remembered for his love of laughter and devotion to family! He was proud of being a Marine and serving his country during WW II.

W.L. Bushwar, Jr. is preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and William Leslie Bushwar, Sr.; sisters, Rex Bushwar and Edith Littlejohn along with a brother, Floyd Bushwar.

W.L. (Dub) is survived by his wife, Eileen Mulhollen Bushwar; son, Larry Ray Bushwar; daughter, Cherie Gay Bushwar; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and their children; and brother Oscar M. Bushwar (Beth).

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas with Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Mike Sutton, Bill Dickson, Andrew Dickson, David Krebs, Les Huddleston, David Hill. Honorary Pallbearer: Garrett Dickson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3915 Gollihar Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. The family wishes to thank Wooldridge Place Nursing Home and Altus Hospice for their loving care before and after his death.
