BOATRIGHT, JESSE E.

Shreveport, LA – Mr. Boatright was born on January 30, 1922, and passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Father Philip F. Michiels. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave.

Mr. Boatright was a graduate of St. John’s High School where he was a member of the football team and attended Northwestern State University. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served overseas in the South Pacific for three years and two months. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries received at Iwo Jima. Mr. Boatright was a member of E Company which was the company that raised both flags at Suribachi. He was honored to consult with James Bradley as he wrote the book, Flags of Our Fathers.

Mr. Boatright retired after 34 years from NL McCullough Industries and enjoyed time at his home on Toledo Bend Lake where he loved fishing and being outdoors. At the age of 80 he returned to Shreveport where he met and married Edna Sherling. They shared 10 great years together traveling and spending time with their families.

Mr. Boatright was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Sibley Boatright; his parents; one brother; two sisters; and a great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Edna Sherling Boatright; one daughter, Judy Lovell and husband, David; two grandchildren, Chris Lovell and wife, Amanda, Amy Williams and husband, Brian; and six great-grandchildren, Emma Cate, Chance and Campbell Williams, Paxton, Bowman and Kerrington Lovell.

Pallbearers will be Chris Lovell, Dr. Brian Williams, Tommy Howard, Richard Hadwin, Rick Hadwin and Michael Petty.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Del Mundo, Ark-La-Tex Cardiologists, Pulmonary Associates and Dr. Sylvia Noble.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home.
