BANKER, ROBERT J.

Pfc. Robert J. Banker, 19, was killed in action on Okinawa, June 6 [1945], according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Banker, 1544 ½ Packard Ave.

He was born in Richland Center, Wis., and would have been 20 years old on June 29. He attended Berryville, Hansche, Franklin Junior and Washington Park High Schools, quitting his studies on Feb. 23, 1943, to enlist in the Marine Corps. Overseas 18 months, he took part in the invasion of Guam and participated in several other engagements. On April 15 he was slightly wounded on Okinawa, where he had been since April 1. When he met his death he was serving with the 6th Division in a group of volunteer Raiders.

Surviving besides his parents are two brothers, Richard, 15, and Clyde Jr., 14.
