FISHBACK, LEONARD H.

Carmi, Ill. – Leonard Fishback, 89, of Carmi, passed away at 9:33 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

He was born Nov. 2, 1921 in rural Carmi, the son of James Manley and Hattie Ann (Forrester) Fishback. Leonard married Violet Aretha Slocumb on May 11, 1944, and she survives. Leonard worked as a truck driver for O’Daniel Trucking and was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He attended First Pentecostal Church of Carmi.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aretha of Carmi; a daughter, Linda Murry and fiancé, Patrick Duffy of Olmsted; two sons and daughters-in-law, James L. and Pat Fishback, and Charles Eugene “Gene” and Marilyn Usery, all of Carmi; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Wayne and Betty Fishback of Carmi; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Ray Fishback; two sisters, Reba Crayne and Margerite Trout; four brothers, Charlie, Rolin, Arthur and Harold Fishback; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
