FAMILARO, JOHN E.

Dr. John E. Familaro, 71, a general surgeon with offices in River Forest, died Sunday [January 31, 1993] at his home in River Forest. Dr. Familaro served on the staffs of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park and Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, having worked as chief of surgery at both hospitals. He also worked on the staff of St. Anne’s Family Medical Center on the South Side, where he served as chief of surgery and president of the medical staff. He retired from all three staffs in 1988. During World War II, he worked as a medic in the Marines in Okinawa and Guam. Dr. Familaro graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1952. Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Enright; two sons, Robert and Douglas; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salerno’s Galewood Funeral Chapel, 1857 N. Harlem Ave., Chicago.
