EDWARDS, MARVIN G.

Marvin Gordon Edwards, 76, died Feb. 23 [1999] at home.

He was born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and lived in Savannah for 30 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart. He retired from the Air Force in 1962 as a chief master sergeant.

He retired in 1983 as a police lieutenant in Savannah.

He was a Master Mason, a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia.

Survivors: his wife, Jewel Stafford Edwards of Savannah; a son, Marvin Gordon Edwards Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a daughter, Pamela Edwards Baxley of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Marlene E. Tatum of Cary, N.C., and Betty E. Poythress of Raleigh, N. C.; brothers, William Harry Edwards of Memphis, Tenn., Frank Cecil, James H. and Thomas Edwards, all of Roanoke Rapids; two granddaughters, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no public services.
