ECKLEN, GEORGE E.
George Edward Ecklen, age 80, of San Antonio, TX, and formerly of Austin, TX, passed away November 15, 2003. He was an active member of the Manchaca United Methodist Church. George loved square dancing, woodworking and golf. He was a dedicated worker doing extensive volunteer cabinetry for various local organizations. He was a member of the Merry Mixers Dance Club, Rainbow Rounds and the American Legion. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II and participated in combat operations in the Pacific Theater as a member of the First Raider Battalion. He participated in action against the enemy in Bougainville, Guam, Mariana Islands, Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands. He retired from IBM as a Customer Engineering Branch Manager after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Ellen Staloch; one brother and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; son, Dan Harry Ecklen of Georgetown; and daughter, Laura Kay Flynn & husband Michael of San Antonio; son-in-law, Daniel J. Staloch of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2003, at the Manchaca United Methodist Church. Entombment will be at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Manchaca United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O.
