BUNN, BENNIE M.

CHARLES CITY—Lt. B. M. Bunn, 36, a First Marine Raider who in 1932 received the coveted Navy Cross for heroism, has been killed in action [July 10, 1943] somewhere in the combat area, according to word received by local relatives. He was with the Marines for 16 years.

His award came to him while a member of the Marine patrol in Nicaragua. Since that time he served, among other places, at Shanghai, China, and Pearl Harbor, H. I. He received recognition at various times for expert rifle and pistol shooting.

A graduate of the Charles City High School, he was married Aug. 20, 1935, to Mercedes Mata, now residing in San Diego, Cal. Other survivors are his father, Henry Bunn, Charles City; mother, Mrs. Lee Wayne, Valparaiso, Ind.; sister, Mrs. Bea Pickell, formerly of Mason City and now of Ames; brother, Clifford Bunn, Charles City.
